Our teams considerable experience in the investigation of both ‘greenfield’ and ‘brownfield’ sites ensures we will have the right approach to suit your site and project. Furthermore, being an independent consultancy company, we will ensure that the most appropriate method of intrusive investigation is used for your site and that laboratory testing is commissioned with organisations which are appropriately accredited for the testing and analyses, (UKAS, MCERTS etc). Our services include:

Desk Studies

  • Review of historical County Series & Ordnance Survey maps, to determine the recorded land use of the site and its environs.
  • Consideration of the geological, hydrological and hydrogeological setting of the site.
  • Written enquires to the Local Authority Building Control, Environmental Health & Planning Departments.
  • Inspection of the site by an experienced Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer.
  • The formulation of an initial Conceptual Site Model and assessment of potential environmental risks and liabilities based upon potential or identified source-pathway-receptor (target) linkages.

Site Investigations

The intrusive investigations of  a site may comprise, as appropriate:

  • Trial pits and trial trenches.
  • Window sampling and dynamic probing.
  • Cable Percussive and Rotary Boreholes.
  • Limited or restricted access investigation techniques.
  • Sampling of soils and ground waters.
  • Installation of ground water and/or ground gas monitoring standpipes or other specialist instrumentation.
  • In-situ testing including Static (Dutch) Cone Penetration Testing, CBR & Plate Load Testing and Soakaway Tests.
  • Laboratory testing and analyses of soils and waters, with comparison of the results to current assessment guidelines.
